Do you think that transatlantic air services from the U.S. to Shannon Airport are still necessary?

There is still need for that transatlantic air route. The first time I traveled that route was via Gander, N.F. on 29 April, 1958, on a TWA prop. That was the first day Aer Lingus flew the Atlantic. I hope this Irish carrier won't vanish from the friendly skies, as did TWA and Pan Am.

Many of us in the southwest and probably elsewhere have friends and relatives living in the midlands and indeed from Donegal southward to Cork and Kerry. I have no desire to go to Dublin and would resent it tremendously if I had to. For years I flew Delta until they shut us out of Atlanta on the Shannon route. I will take Continental as I can get to Newark non-stop from San Antonio in the summer and besides Continental is a Texas based company with its HQ here. Continental wants our business to Shannon not like the others.
Joan, Texas

Absolutely. When I have traveled to Ireland, I want to be in the west. I can't stand Dublin with its? filth. When Americans envision Ireland, they think of the green fields of Clare, Mayo, and Galway, not the M-1
Jeff, Kentucky

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Why end that route?
Sheila, New York

Yes. My favorite place in Ireland is the West. I am not interested in going to Dublin. Shannon is also a very important economic factor. Many families in the West rely on the airport and its? allied businesses for their income.
Patricia James, Virginia

Absolutely necessary. Flying into Shannon is much nicer than Dublin.
ann, New York

It?s a huge waste of money stopping in Shannon -taking a plane up and down costs thousands in air fuel. Dublin is the Capital and the airport is there...its not like Ireland is a HUGE country and needs multiple airports. Shannon would be NO loss -in fact a boost to the faltering Aer Lingus and Delta's of this world. Aer Lingus being almost broke- the Irish tax payers are keeping it in the sky as if they can afford another 'commercial mouth to feed' in these turbulent economic times...poor things.
colette miller, Florida

No it?s not necessary at all and should never have been built in the first place. Dublin is such a beautiful city with the Wicklow mountains all around and Wicklow itself so picturesque and great transportation from Dublin to any part of Ireland. I recall our trips through the bogs of Ireland from Mullingar to pick up uncle John and aunt Mary coming to Shannon from NY and it was always raining 'to beat the band' in said bog areas. Hopefully Shannon is on its last legs.
