What effect do you think charging by any airline for extra baggage will have on travel to Ireland and do you think the charges are justified?
People pack too much to begin with. The overhead storage on most flights are jammed with bags that should be check-in. If you want to bring everything short of the kitchen sink, then you'll have to pay for it. Fair enough.

No effect. You go to Ireland, because you want to, regardless of extra charges which are justified for the survival of the airlines.

Aer Lingus is leaving Dulles in September. By charging 50 dollars for a second bag, they will be leaving New York and Boston as well. Other airlines that fly to Ireland don?t charge for the 2nd bag. I think they are making a big mistake.

Charging more for a person to fly because of extra weight is not far removed from charging for any disability -- the weight in many cases being genetic or a medical quirk. Totally unfair. Will they then charge less for tiny or skinny people? How about midgets and dwarfs? They deserve a break, too, in this case.
