I am glad to note that the good people of Irish America have no idea how to unify Ireland. Perhaps now they can concentrate on how to unify America.
Walter Ellis, New York

Yes, a more progressive and better educated generation is ready to assume leadership positions. A person?s religion is finally being regarded as a private matter and will not be an issue. Ireland has an opportunity to take her place as a great nation!
michael o 'sullivan, Florida

A federated Ireland in which North and South would have equal representation in its Upper House may be more acceptable to Unionists, whose cultural and religious heritage would be permanently guaranteed in the new Irish nation.
Seán Mac Curtáin, New York

A federal Ireland would make all citizens "Irish" and, hopefully, eliminate the distinctions that have separated them, e.g., nationalists and loyalists.
JC Sullivan, Ohio

A Federal Republic of Ireland would allow for the Northern Republicans to keep control of local issues and local power while at the same time giving them a place on the Irish national political scene and representing Federal Republic on the international level. It seems like a win, win, win situation for Northern Republicans. There has historically always been a federated Eire - Celtic Kings of Ulster while also a High King of All Ireland in Tara.
Dave, New York

As a stepping stone to a Federal Republic -the North South Ministerial Council should be given observer status (non-voting status) on the United Nations and EU levels. The young and bright Nationalists should be striving to make the North South Ministerial Council the engine room for a Federal Republic. Once observer status has been granted - petition for full member status: effectively the North South Ministerial Council is a new quasi independent state.
Sean Campbell, California
