Throwback Thursday

Robert Emmet’s last words

203 years ago this week, and after he led a failed attempt to win Ireland’s freedom, Robert Emmet was tried, sentenced and executed, all in the span of just two days. His words, spoken from the dock, have, however, echoed down all the years since. This miniature of Emmet, which depicts him at his trial, is in the National Gallery of Ireland.
