Long a figure in the Irish and Irish American business community and with wide-reaching contacts through her work with events such as New York/New Belfast, the Irish Echo 40 Under 40 awards, Labor Awards and Belfast Homecoming, Ms. McCann, who is a fluent Irish speaker, was previously CEO of the Irish language newspaper, Lá.

After qualifying with an MSc in Business and IT from Dublin City University and a BA Hons in Celtic Studies from the University of Ulster, Ms. McCann began her career in the Belfast Media Group, taking up the position of marketing and distribution manager for the group’s print and online products.

She moved into event management in 2005 and now specializes in awards ceremonies and conferences in Ireland and the United States.

Speaking of her new role Ms. McCann said it was a “natural fit” given her long-standing connection with the Irish and American business community, and her commitment to the binding links between the two countries.

“I am honored and delighted to assume the post of publisher of the Irish Echo having worked closely with the team for nine years,” she said.

“I am looking forward to building on that connection with the wonderful team we have, and the Irish American community as a whole.”
