Playing full back in a challenge game between Old Crocks, of which I was one, and St. Johns senior team, when an 18 stone full forward came at me at 100 mph with a sliothar (hurley ball) on his caman (hurley stick). I was revived in the bar.
Have you ever marched in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade? If so, what group did you march with?
Yes. The County Antrim Association in New York.
Five essential Irish albums that should be part of everyone’s music library: Prosperous by Planxty; Eist by various artists singing in native tongue; The Man from Clare by Tony McMahon; Live at the Point by Christy Moore; Any CD by The Chieftans.
How much green do you wear on March 17th? Shamrock and green tie. Do you eat corned beef & cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day? How about soda bread? No – but I do eat soda bread every Saturday with a fry. Favorite Irish film? “Darby O Gill and the Little People.” Favorite Irish book? “The Anthology of Irish Books.” Favorite Irish song? “Mo Chuisle.” Complete this sentence: The most Irish thing about me is . . . My red hair!
